This is only the second garment I have ever made in my life! You can probably sense my surprise at this accomplishment. I found this beautiful cotton panel, Klmit’s The Kiss, at the Quilted Ewe shop in New Hartford, Connecticut. Nearly everyone who has seen this jacket told me they have a print of this particular Klimt.
For the back I did some piecing with cotton fabric and then appliquéd the symbol of impermanence to it. The black fabric is Kona cotton.
I continue to explore the relationship between materials we value and those we throw away. The abstract tree is created from cellophane wrapping that comes with the stretched canvas I buy. I slice it into strips then I twist it and stitch it to the fabric. I enjoy the way it catches light and that it is not in the landfill.
I am looking forward to creating more jackets but right now I have another project in mind.
